  • For the first time in over 11 years the City has ended the year with a surplus in the general fund. This was accomplished through carefully controlling the spending. Just as all of us have suffered in the economy so has the city government. We use a lot of fuel to power our vehicles & equipment; even the pavement is made of oil so it has created challenges. The state of Illinois used to mow state routes, now we have to. We have to maintain many abandoned homes. Watching over the finances are Commissioner Elena Hibler, Treasurer, Ty Klover, and consultant Jim Acanfora. They have done a great job!
